Membership
We’re not big on long policies and corporatese, so here’s a quick summary:
As a member (if you’re a bootcamp student, you are considered a member for the duration of the bootcamp), you have 24/7 access to the Fractal Tech Hub.
You have the ability to use the space as you deem fit in a reasonable manner, and to use all items and tools owned by Fractal Tech in a reasonable manner.
You will be billed monthly, and can manage your billing status here. If you’ve been migrated to Flowglad, use the link in your receipt email.
Any cancellations will take effect after your membership finishes out its monthly cycle (keep in mind this probably will not line up with the actual first of the month, depending on when you signed up).
Communication
We generally make all member announcements in the #members channel on Discord. If you’re not added to this, let one of us know.

If there is a true emergency and we are unreachable, please call our landlord, Cono Savino, at 516-965-4086. He runs Savino’s Quality Pasta, so you may be able to quickly run downstairs and ask for him.
David Martinez: 929-472-6164. He comes in Monday through Friday to clean and take out trash.

Norms
Fractal Tech is a place primarily for founders, engineers, designers, and others doing focused, quiet, work (note that focused ≠unfun! We are not Very Serious People. We believe that the best work comes through laughter, joking, tinkering and play.)
- The Main Room is meant to be a focused, quiet space. The goal is that the main space is for hushed/quiet conversation only -- ideally murmurs, because many people have sensitivity to noise.
- If you’d like to have a louder conversation more than 90 seconds long, go to the Lounge.
- If you're going to be lingering in the cozy area of the lounge, please remove your shoes. If you're just passing through, you can keep them on.
- If you’d like to take a meeting, use a call booth, the back Office, or Sunroom.
- These spaces are limited and first-come-first-serve, so leave these areas free after your meeting, unless you have a short gap between meetings.
- If you just have a phone call, a nice walk around the block is always a great option!
- Label any personal items that are left overnight (especially food — with date!). We regularly clean and move items around the various spaces.
- Monitors are limited, so use only one
- Guest policy: you can bring a guest to hang out for up to a few hours, but if they're working here, they should buy a day pass.
Events
You do not need to be a member to host events, but you are encouraged to host events here if you are a member.
To submit an event you’d like to host for approval, first talk to someone from Fractal Tech to get a vibe check, then click on “Add Event” on our Luma calendar to submit it for approval.
Events are generally in evenings and we try to keep them out of the way of our members working. However, it is possible that sometimes an event may take place during working hours, in which case members will be notified.
Waste Disposal
Currently, Fractal Tech shares one trash bin with Savino’s Quality Pasta. The trash pickup is Thursday night.
There is a small metal compost bin in the kitchen, please throw all food waste in here for our Fractal Garden!
We do not currently recycle.
Because we have private trash pickup, cardboard is not allowed in the dumpster. This includes pizza boxes. It should be put in the Room of Requirement and David, our cleaner, will put it out next to the trash on Thursday night.
Access
The space is available for use 24 hours, 7 days a week and doors are generally unlocked from 9 AM to 7 PM on weekdays.
For off-hours, you can get keys, if you want them. Keys are marked with an orange ring for outside door and a yellow ring opens the inside door.
However, most members don’t come in often during off-hours and would be suited by just using the lockbox labeled “FRACTAL TECH” to the left of the entrance. The code is 7979. Please replace the keys once you’re in.
If you haven’t gotten a key, talk to someone from Fractal Tech. If you lost your key, same.
Spaces
All spaces are open for member use.
Main Room - contains the majority of desks as well as our kitchen. The bootcamp is primarily run from here, and this is where many of our members cowork.
Room of Requirement - just off the main room, this contains tools which are available for member and organizer use. Lounge - a more social, shoes-off space. Contains a second kitchen and bathroom. Uninhabited Private Office - Jake used to live here, now we’ re renting this out as a private office. The Cave - a cozy cav-ey space towards the back of Fractal Tech. Contains our four call booths. The Sunroom - a private room with overhead lights with massive lumens. The Office - a standard office right next to The Sunroom. The Roof - home to our Fractal Garden!
Lights
The globe pendant lights are Philips Hue and can be controlled via a smart switch on the wall labeled “MAIN LIGHTS”.
Heat and A/C
Fractal has various heating modalities:
- The main room and cave have three minisplits (heat pumps) between them, which can be turned on or off via a remote (make sure the fan is up to the highest speed!)
- Please keep the AC on overnight in hot weather. The space is difficult to keep cool.
- The lounge has a strong gas heater, controlled by a thermostat to the left of the door
- There are a few space heaters strewn about - careful that you don’t hook two of these up to the same circuit as they draw 1500W of power each and will trip our breakers.
3D Printer
We have a Bambu Labs X-1 Carbon 3D Printer. We’ll add more instructions about how to use this at some point.
Printer
We have a wireless printer. Make sure you’re connected to the wifi and add it via your Printers settings. Look for the brand “Brother”.
Packages
We don’t recommend having packages shipped to the Fractal Tech Hub for two reasons:
- No clear entry point - 111 Conselyea has multiple entrances - the one that goes to the lounge, the pasta shop, and us. Even for us, there's a mailbox downstairs and then there's up the stairs and in the space itself. Packages are dropped wherever because the deliverer has no idea where it should go.
- Diffusion of responsibility - right now there's not one person in charge of receiving packages and making sure they get to you. We don't have a consistent staffed front desk right now, let alone even a consistent amount of people working.
If you have something shipped here, you are taking a risk that it may never get to you. If you still insist on doing this, we highly recommend putting specific delivery instructions in. Here is our default:
"Please walk up the stairs through the door to the left of the pasta shop, open the door right in front at the top that says "Fractal Tech", and place the package inside. Thank you!"
Frequently Asked Questions
What things are usable in the space for events (projector/lighting/audio)?
We have two projectors. There are some small speakers that you can aux into via the Room of Requirement - probably not great for amplified sound. In general, we found that the acoustics for amplified sound in the Main Room are not good and thus recommend simply raising your voice!
Are there bookable phone booths? Where do people take calls?
We have four first-come, first-serve phone booths in the Cave, for now. People also take calls in the back office on the left, behind the Cave.
Who is responsible for procuring items for the space? What is the workflow for suggesting that items get bought?
We will procure items, tools, and infrastructure if you ask. Often, we just haven’t thought about it, or we don’t realize the need is so acute. Ask and you shall receive.
Post in #operations and someone will do it.
What’s cool to eat/drink/explore around the Tech Hub?
Check out our PamPam map here with all of our favorite spots, and let us know if you have suggestions!
